ист"Дред Скотт против Сэнфорда"Дело в Верховном суде США [ Supreme Court, U.S.], решение по которому (1857) подтвердило предыдущие постановления Суда о том, что негры не имеют права на получение гражданства и, соответственно, на предъявление исков к своим хозяевам и что США не должны запрещать рабство на незаселенных территориях. Дред Скотт вместе с хозяином уехал из рабовладельческого штата Миссури на свободную территорию [ free soil] (штат Иллинойс и Территорию Висконсин), но через 4 года был возвращен в родной штат. Скотт подал в суд и потребовал свободы, заявив, что въехал из свободного штата как свободный гражданин. Политическое движение за отмену рабства. Начало массового движения принято относить к 30-м гг. XIX в., когда начала издаваться газета "Либерейтор" [ Liberator, The] и было основано Американское общество борьбы с рабством [ American Anti-Slavery Society]. К 1840 в движении сложилось два течения. Большинство аболиционистов во главе с У. Гаррисоном [ Garrison, William Lloyd] считало, что с рабством необходимо бороться не прибегая к силе. Меньшинство, возглавляемое Ф. Дуглассом [ Douglass, Frederick], выступало за применение вооруженной силы. Джон Браун [ Brown, John] предпринял неудавшуюся вооруженную попытку освободить рабов в 1859. Аболиционизм как политическое движение исчерпал себя, когда была принята Прокламация об освобождении [ Emancipation Proclamation] и Тринадцатая поправка к Конституции [ Thirteenth Amendment].тж abolitionism
